This project transformed a large 12,000 SF house located on over 2 acres into a grand French Neo-Renaissance estate.
Integrating the outdoors and indoors allowed opportunities to bring light and spectacular views into the spaces of the house, enabling indoor-outdoor entertaining, a hallmark of the local climate.
The façade redesign is marked by a strong symmetry establishing the prominence of the main house.
The project also converted rooftops and a former equipment yard into viewing terraces, adding highly desirable surfaces for the hillside estate's daily functions as well as entertaining.
New stone cladding and wrought iron detailing transformed the former rather plain surfaces, and work together to create a more formal feeling. This is emphasized by a series of colonnades, open stairs, and enlarged openings to improve the interior space flow.
Arched openings serve to punctuate the screen wall between the pool court and entry court, and create outdoor activity zones by introducing colonnades, niches and pavilions. A fountain introduces sound and dynamics to the static nature of the pool.
Removing existing partitions in the house allowed a better flow of interior spaces, and provided views on both sides of the house. Enclosing the pool deck with a screen wall for semi-privacy and to provide spatial definition of the water featured exterior zone.
